It’s been four months since I’ve written a blog post, but I am happy to be back to be part of Esther Chilton’s blog tour for her latest children’s book, Myths & Magic. This is Esther’s second book in her Saffy’s Secret Quest series, which are written for children ages 5-7 years old.

Here’s an extract from the book:
Saffy smiled and caught sight of Mum, who had gone ahead of her a little further into the
room. “Ooh, look! Mum’s found a mermaid.”
She walked over to a beautiful model of a young girl, whose tail was swishing from side to
side.
“You’re right, Mum. I can’t believe all these myths and legends are connected to our town,
either. How exciting,” Saffy said. “What’s the one about the mermaid?”
“Legend has it that, years ago, a mermaid saved some sailors from hitting another boat,”
Mum said. “And since that day, there haven’t been any boating accidents.”
“I like the legend about the ogres putting all the fairies into a big pot and eating them for
dinner,” Harry sniggered.
“Harry!” Mum said sternly. “That wasn’t one of the legends.”
“It’s a better legend than ones about silly mermaids and princesses who lived for three
hundred years,” Harry said.
“That was a lovely legend.” Mum sighed wistfully.
“I thought there might be one about a dragon,” Saffy said with disappointment, her eyes
flicking round the large room. There was so much to see, with display cases and magical and
mystical creatures everywhere she looked. “But I can’t see any dragons anywhere.”
“No, I didn’t come across any dragon tales. Try looking at the touch screens. I’m sure there
must be a myth about a dragon somewhere,” Mum suggested.
“Touch screens?” Saffy asked.
“Yes, there are lots of them. If you press the buttons, you’ll hear all sorts of stories about the
myths and legends. I only listened to a few and I didn’t come across any about dragons,”
Mum said.
Saffy blew out a breath of despair.
And a bit about the author:

Esther has been a freelance writer for over twenty-five years, regularly writing articles and
short stories for magazines and newspapers such as Writers’ Forum, Writing Magazine, The
Guardian, Best of British, The Cat, This England, Yours and The People’s Friend.
Winner of several competitions, including those run by Writing Magazine and The Global
Short Story Contest, she has also had the privilege of judging writing competitions and
relished being given the role of head judge of the Writers’ Forum monthly short story
competition.
Esther loves writing but equally enjoys helping others, which she achieves in her role as a
tutor for The Writers Bureau. Always on the lookout for a new challenge, she is taking the
distance learning college over at the end of July.
She has had two how-to books on writing published, with a third due out later this year, as
well as two collections of short stories. Her second children’s book is coming out in May,
where she writes under the name of Esther Moonstomp.
